Frequently Asked Questions: How therapy works with me
1. Do you accept insurance?
No, I am an out-of-network provider. Managing insurance claims takes significant time, and I believe my clients are better served by me devoting my time to them in-session and investing in advanced training.
However, upon request, I can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance company for any possible out-of-network reimbursement. That said, I strongly recommend contacting your insurer directly to understand any out-of-network benefits.
2. Why don’t you accept insurance?
Insurance places significant restrictions on session length and frequency, and I aim to provide my clients with a higher level of care than insurance often allows.
Insurance also limits ‘level’ of care, and I am committed to going above and beyond ‘standard care’ threshold. I research the issues my clients come in with, provide genograms, and offer an in-depth intake process. I take yearly training, stay abreast of latest research, and track client progress in each session carefully with detailed notes. I value my clients’ lived experience, and I’m honored they trust me with their stories. I am committed to keeping track of every story and all the details that matter.
For all these reasons and more, I carefully select the clients I work with and avoid insurance restrictions so I am able to commit to the highest level of care.
3. What are your session fees? What is the payment process?
Individual therapy sessions with me are 50 minutes. My current rate is $200 per session, and payment is auto drafted at the time of service via credit card, HSA, or FSA.
4. Do you offer virtual therapy?
Yes. I provide online therapy via a HIPAA compliant platform to clients located in New York and Colorado. I also offer in-person therapy sessions in Boulder, Colorado.
5. What issues do you specialize in?
I work primarily with adults in their 20s and 30s navigating:
- Anxiety and nervous system dysregulation
- Trauma and complex PTSD
- Dating and relationship patterns
- Attachment wounds
- Major life transitions
6. What is EMDR, and will we use it?
EMDR is an evidence-based therapy used to help reprocess traumatic memories so that they no longer carry the same emotional intensity. EMDR can be instrumental for therapeutic integration, which is the internal shift most of my clients are seeking.
However, please note: I only introduce EMDR once we’ve established stability and regulation skills. Not every client needs EMDR. If you are interested in EMDR therapy, please let me know, and we’ll determine together what feels appropriate.
7. How long does therapy take?
Therapy duration always varies. Some clients may attend weekly for 6 to 12 months. Others may prefer to engage long-term for 1 to 3+ years. Whether you’re interested in therapy for a reason or a season, we will always move at a pace that supports your nervous system and transition to monthly or maintenance sessions as needed.
8. What if I’m nervous about therapy?
Yes, per HIPAA laws, everything we discuss will remain private. Honoring your confidentiality is my utmost concern, and this is part of the reason why I am an out of network provider – to ensure your privacy.
Regarding confidentiality, there are only two exceptions: As a licensed therapist, I am required by law to break confidentiality if a client is a threat to themselves or someone else. I am also required by law to report any child abuse to the State Department of Family and Protective Services.
9. What makes you different from other therapists?
My style is highly collaborative, and I’m not a passive therapist. Yes, I will listen and hold space while you verbally process, and I will also support you by guiding and empowering you to reclaim your sense of agency.
Rest assured, we won’t just be sitting in awkward silence. Bring whatever you need to bring, but please don’t stress about knowing what to say in session. Show up however you need to show up, and I’ll help ensure we move at a pace that feels safe and interact in a way that is meaningful.
This means I won’t sit there quietly while you spiral. Healing happens when your nervous system feels supported, not overwhelmed, so if emotions ever start to overwhelm you or I sense you’re becoming flooded, I will gently interrupt. We’ll honor what your nervous system is experiencing by inviting a somatic pause and practicing emotional regulation before proceeding.

10. Do you offer group therapy?
No. I do not currently offer group or family therapy. However, on occasion, a few of my clients want to bring their partner for a one-off couple’s session, and that’s perfectly fine and welcome
11. Do you offer couples counseling?
No. At this time, I do not offer couples counseling. However, if you’d like to have a ‘guest day’ where you bring your partner in for a session or two, you are more than welcome to do that. I am a Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy (PACT) trained counselor, which means I’m well-versed in relationship issues and dynamics, and I can provide attachment-based, couples therapy to individual clients.
12. Do you offer therapy for children and adolescents?
No. My clientele predominantly includes adults in their 20s and 30s.
13. What if I’m in my 40s or 50s? Can I still be your client?
Yes. While the majority of my clients are in their 20s and 30s, I do have several clients in their 40s and 50s. Ultimately, if you are in a season of becoming, an era of change, or simply exploring and re-examining the way you show up in life and in your relationships, then chances are, we’ll be a good fit for each other.
14. What do I need to do to prepare for my first therapy session?
If you would like to bring a problem, life history, or question, etc. you’re more than welcome to do so, however, please feel free to come raw, unprepared, and exactly-as-you-are. I’m well-aware that many of my clients struggle with perfectionism, self-criticism, or people-pleasing, and the last thing I want is for therapy with me to become another place where you feel pressure to ‘perform.’
15.Do you give therapy homework?
No. However, if appropriate and on occasion, I may suggest growth-work, which will be focused on real-world application so that in-session insights can transform into real-time integration. Generally, at the end of our time together, I will provide a summary of the session theme or focus along with a ‘next step’ for you to work on in-between sessions. This next step or growth-work item can range from a journal prompt, to a discussion with your partner, to creating an IFS parts map or even practicing a DBT skill.
16. What is your cancelation policy?
Life happens and I totally understand you may need to cancel or reschedule a therapy session. If so, simply notify me within 48 hours to avoid any cancelation fees.
Healing is worth it.
Healing can be so exciting because it creates space for perspective, and in that space, opportunities abound. All that energy that previously went toward coping with and managing symptoms suddenly becomes a reclaimed resource. Whether you are seeking relief from lingering past wounds or are needing a more integrative approach to therapy, I’m here for you.
