Somatic & trauma-informed anxiety therapy for adults in NY & CO
Understanding anxiety therapy
Beyond just ‘talking about it’
We all ‘overthink’ from time to time and feel occasional stress. It’s normal to experience some ongoing concern about certain things. But there is a huge difference between intermittent worrying and compulsive spiraling. If you’re experiencing chronic unease or fearful thoughts about something in your life to the point that the narrative feels intrusive and overwhelming … then that’s anxiety.
If you’re experiencing anxiety, somatic-based anxiety therapy can help.
What does ‘somatic’ mean?
Somatic means relating to the body. Somatic therapy for anxiety is a specialized form of psychotherapy that’s based on the proven connection between the mind and the body. This trauma-informed approach works to calm the racing thoughts in your head by gently regulating your nervous system.
The goal of somatic-based anxiety therapy is to help you reclaim a sense of peace and control over your anxiety, so it stops controlling you – and it has a proven track record. Somatic therapy is evidenced-based, meaning it has shown to be especially effective for treating symptoms of PTSD, c-PTSD, and severe anxiety disorders.
Somatic-based anxiety therapy vs Traditional talk therapy
What makes this
service unique
Somatic therapy goes far deeper than traditional talk therapy because it goes beyond the cognitive realm of your mind and taps into the physical anxiety symptoms experienced throughout your body. This matters because our mind can debate anything endlessly. In other words, anxiety doesn’t actually live in your head – that’s just where it spirals. Anxiety is stored in our nervous system, which means to resolve anxiety and experience deep relief, we need to do more than just talk about it. We need to heal it.
Through a mix of somatic, parts-based work, and EMDR-informed strategies, we focus not only on anxious thought narratives, but on understanding what the anxiety is trying to tell you. Ultimately, the goal of somatic therapy is to acknowledge our physical sensations and emotions so that we can help ‘move’ the energy rather than repress or perpetuate it.
What to expect
We’ll approach anxiety as a source of information. Our body only lets us stray so far from Self before it calls us back, which is often through the felt experience of anxiety. Often times, people are in such a hurry to remove the anxiety that they suppress it rather than feel it. I’ll help you work with your anxiety by asking things like, “What do you think your anxiety is trying to do for you?” Or, “What would it have you know?”
We’ll focus on processing and neutralizing anxiety at the source, before the spiral becomes overwhelming. Anxiety sessions with me are highly personalized, but in general, here’s what to expect:
Initial assessment
In our first session together, we’ll explore triggers, patterns, and how anxiety shows up in your body.
Somatic awareness
Through bodily attunement and active visualization techniques, you’ll learn how to safely notice and release tension being stored in your body.
Practical coping strategies
I’ll equip you with breathing, grounding, and self-regulation tools you can turn to whenever you feel anxiety start to rise.
DBT & IFS-informed work
We’ll utilize DBT and IFS (parts-based) therapy as appropriate to understand the root cause of your anxiety symptoms.
Real-life integration & practice
Through gentle nervous system regulation, I’ll help you integrate and apply what you learn so change carries beyond the therapy session and into the real world.
Whether you choose online anxiety counseling in CO or NY or in-person therapy at my Boulder, CO office, your sessions will combine insight, skill-building, and embodied awareness.
Is anxiety therapy right for me?
My trauma-informed anxiety therapy is ideal for adults in their 20s and 30s in NY or CO who:
- Feel stuck in thought loops, constant worry, overthinking, or anticipatory stress
- Experience physical anxiety symptoms including racing heart, tense muscles, or shallow breathing
- Have tried standard talk therapy but still feel overwhelmed or “stuck” (or even triggered)
- Struggle with sleep disruption, irritability, or difficulty concentrating
- Want actionable, body-informed strategies that actually work
If any of these resonate, anxiety therapy can help you feel calmer, more centered, and in control of your life and thoughts.
How to know if you need anxiety therapy
Check in with yourself:
- Do you feel tense, restless, or constantly “on edge”?
- Do worries or overthinking disrupt work, relationships, or your daily routines?
- Have you tried talk therapy or CBT but still feel stuck?
- Are you experiencing physical symptoms of anxiety such as an upset stomach, tightness in the throat, headaches, tense muscles, difficulty sleeping, appetite changes, or a racing heart?
- Are you open to exploring a trauma-informed approach to anxiety therapy that addresses both your body and mind together?
- Would you like to experience the joy-filled peace of a life where anxiety doesn’t dictate your choices or steal your energy?
If you answered “yes” to any of these, then professional therapy for anxiety may be a good next step. These sessions are designed to help you integrate insights into real-world application.
