Somatic-Informed Trauma Therapy for Adults in NY & CO

Transform past wounds into post-traumatic resilience and growth

You may already understand the origin of your trauma. You might even be able to name it or recognize how it shows up in your daily life and relational interactions.

And yet… your body still reacts.

Maybe you freeze during conflict or shut down when things feel too emotionally intense. Or thought patterns of feeling small, flooded, or ‘too much’ replay on what feels like an endless loop.

Trauma is so much more than memories or flashbacks. Yes, those can be symptoms, but when we go to the source, we see that lingering trauma is a nervous system response that leaves us afraid to feel good things in life for fear that the other shoe will drop at any moment.

Trauma-informed therapy is not just about telling your story or trying to make sense of the often senseless things you have had to endure. It’s not about triggering yourself or staring at and overanalyzing the painful moments you wish never happened. It is about having an empathetic witness to your pain, while helping your body to realize that what happened then is no longer happening now.

This is where full-embodied healing takes root and post-traumatic growth begins.

how i support your healing and transformation

A grounded, body-attuned approach to healing

If you’ve been in therapy before and felt like you did most of the talking while nothing changed, then please know – therapy with me will feel very different. I’m a little more directive. I’ll help you slow down whenever you spiral. I’ll gently interrupt if a shame-based narrative takes over. I’ll help draw your attention to what your body is experiencing in real time.

You will always remain in control, but you won’t be alone in the process. We’ll focus on application and integration, especially in relationships, with boundaries, and in moments of emotional activation.

My unique approach to trauma therapy is grounded, attachment-based, IFS-informed, and deeply attuned to your nervous system.

Specifically, I integrate:

How trauma therapy works

True trauma therapy goes so much deeper than traditional talk therapy – which is why standard therapy often doesn’t work for individuals coping with PTSD, c-PTSD, and/or a severely dysregulated nervous system. To heal the impact of trauma at the root, we need to move beyond cognitive logic and surface level dialogue and address what your body is actually experiencing.

Trauma lives in our nervous system, which is responsible for our instinctive reactions, namely our ‘fight, flight, freeze, or fawn’ responses. This is often why we typically can’t just ‘talk through’ nervous system issues. We need to somatically retrain and regulate our nervous system so it can experience safety and calm.

Somatic therapy in my practice does not mean performing emotions. I will never push you to relive painful experiences. We won’t be yelling, acting things out, or forcing catharsis.

Instead, we use body awareness, active imagination, and guided visualization techniques to help you notice how and where trauma is being stored in your body. We’ll track bodily cues such as a tight chest, clenched jaw, difficulty taking deep breaths, and the urge to disappear. Then we’ll work carefully and respectfully with each of those areas of tension so you can release, relax, and reclaim your peace.

About EMDR Therapy and reprocessing Trauma

When appropriate, I can provide EMDR therapy – an evidence-based technique for reprocessing traumatic memories so they no longer carry the same emotional charge. Additionally, EMDR can greatly reduce or resolve symptoms of PTSD and c-PTSD.

EMDR is not something I rush into. We build stability first. We strengthen regulation. We make sure your nervous system feels supported and we have a regulation strategy in place so that the experience is empowering. To learn more about how EMDR works, please visit my FAQ page.

healing of origin trauma

IFS-informed trauma therapy

Many of the adults I work with in their 20s and 30s aren’t just healing from one single event. Often, it’s relational trauma. Attachment wounds. Repeated experiences of feeling unseen, criticized, dismissed, or emotionally unsafe while growing up. Family of origin trauma is nearly always complex, and it shows up in how we express ourselves in relationship to other humans – especially romantic relationships.

For example…

  • You crave relational closeness but panic when you get it.
  • You may struggle with ‘losing your identity’ within a relationship.
  • You intellectually know you’re safe, but your body doesn’t agree.
  • You feel stuck in relational patterns you know aren’t healthy.

Through a combination of parts work (IFS), DBT, and other modalities, we’ll take a humanistic approach to compassionately and proactively explore the protective strategies you developed to stay safe in your developmental years. We’ll explore the wounded and exiled parts – the people-pleaser, the overachiever, the inner critic, the perfectionist, and the anxious/insecure/avoidant parts that cope by shutting down.

None of these parts are “bad.” They’re protective, and they’ve been working overtime to help you survive this life. Together, we’ll help you learn to navigate your own system and find a felt sense of safety in your life.

What healing can begin to feel like

Healing from trauma doesn’t mean you never get triggered again. It means triggers, painful memories, and emotional wounds no longer dominate your life, and conflict doesn’t send you into shutdown or spiral mode. It means your nervous system feels steadier, and you trust yourself in relationships instead of abandoning yourself just to ‘keep the peace.’

Trauma therapy won’t erase your past, but it can help your nervous system heal so you can experience the joy of post-traumatic growth. With the right support, healing can be a gentle process of sustainable internal shifts that build on each other until one day, you look back, see how far you’ve come… and exhale.
